Within
the lagoon habitat, one may observe large quantities of aquatic
birds, including numerous herons, cormorants, and the flashy
kingfisher. You may also run into a crocodile or a troop of
white-faced monkeys. With some luck, you might even see a
Mermaid! Local legend has it that early spottings of manatees
where mistaken for the mythical half-woman, half-fish. However,
the celebrity resident of the lagoon is an animal which is
now rarely seen – the endangered Caribbean manatee-
as it is an expert at hearing the slightest indication of
a boat. The boat will stop for a short hike.

tipos de aves, incluyendo garzas cuchareras, cormoranes, y
el martín pescador. También puede encontrarse
con cocodrilos y un buen batallón de monos cariblancos.
Con algo de suerte tal vez pueda ver hasta una sirena!. La
leyenda local responde a que al inicio los avistamientos de
manatíes eran confundidos con la mística figura
de un ser mitad mujer, mitad pez. Sin embargo, el habitante
más celebre de la laguna es un animal que es raramente
visto: el manatí del caribe, una especie fuertemente
amenazada de extinción- y es un experto en detectar
la mínima señal que indique que viene un bote.
El bote se detendrá por un lapso para realizar una
pequeña caminata.
