Gandoca-Manzanillo Refuge Hike

This Refuge stands out for the beauty of its beaches, coral reefs, and tropical forests vibrant with life. Its extraordinary biodiversity is comprised of many ecosystems of great importance. The refuge is covered with thick forest composed primarily of holillo palm, sajo and cativo, coconut palm, sea grape and heleconia – a plant that grows two meters tall and has very conspicuous and beautiful, brightly colored bractlets of red and yellow. Its estuary is made up almost exclusively of red mangrove. The refuge protects several species of animals in danger of extinction such as the manatee, crocodile, tapir, caiman and paca. Monkeys and sloth may also be seen. Birds that may be spotted include the crested-mandible toucan, ornate hawk-eagle, red-lored amazon, manakins, parakeets, motmots, aracari and woodpecker.

Caminata por el Refugio de Vida Silvestre Gandoca-Manzanillo

Este refugio se caracteriza por sus bellas playas, arrecifes de coral, bosques tropicales cargados de vida silvestre. Su extraordinaria biodiversidad consta de varios ecosistemas de gran importancia. El refugio esta compuesto de bosques densos con especies como el yolillo, palma cocotera, sajo, cativo, uva de mar y heliconias: un tipo de plantas que crecen hasta dos metros de altura y tienen unas bellas y sobresalientes brácteas de colores brillantes como rojo y amarillo. Su estuario esta conformado en su mayoría de manglar rojo. El refugio protege especies de animales en peligro de extinción, como el manatí, cocodrilo, danta, caimán, y tepezcuintle. Los monos y los perezosos también son frecuentes. También se pueden observar algunas especies de pájaros como el tucán, águila crestuda real, lapa roja, pericos, pájaro carpintero, arasai, bailarín azul, y barranquero.
